Palestinians Won't Spurn U.S. despite Veto, Abbas Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he would continue to cooperate with the United States despite Washington's veto of a UN resolution condemning Israeli settlements on occupied land, the London-based daily AL HAYAT reported on Feb. 20. "We don't seek to boycott the US administration, and it isn't in our interest to boycott anyone," Abbas said the day before, addressing Palestinian academics at his office in Ramallah, according to the Saudiowned newspaper. "We aren't nihilists. We want to sustain our interests and legitimate rights under international law," he said. "Palestinian diplomacy achieved a true victory when 14 states at the UN Security Council voted in favor of a resolution condemning settlement and considering it illegitimate, despite the US veto," he added.
